Created by Barry sears, the Zone Diet is a diet plan that monitors the ratio of carbohydrates, protein, and fats consumed each day. Focusing on a 40:30:30 ratios of protein, carbohydrates, and fat, the Zone Diet brings hormones into balance. It is this balancing of hormonal levels that gives the diet its name: the Zone diet. Once you are in the Zone, insulin levels balance, and the results are that you lose weight. This is also effective for those who are dealing with Type 2 Diabetes. Additionally, Glucagons, hormones responsible for controlling glucose, and Eicosanoids, hormones that are used to control inflammation, also comes into balance. The result is energy coupled with optimal mental function, fast weight loss, and the regulation of all hormonal systems.
When you enter the Zone, your hormones remain balanced and you’ll find that you won’t be as hungry as you usually are. The diet consists of eating proteins that are low in fat, carbohydrates that are low glycemic, and monosaturated fats that are good for the body. In essence, the Zone Diet consists of what is referred to as the 1-2-3 Method. This is comprised of 1 gram of fat, 2 grams of protein, and 3 grams of carbohydrates.
When you follow the Zone Diet, you will eat regularly throughout the day. You will also learn techniques that will teach you how to measure your food into the 1-2-3 recommendations. You must either eat a snack or meal within one hour after you wake up each morning, and will eat every four to six hours throughout the day. The diet recommends that you eat, regardless of whether you feel hungry, as this will keep the body balanced and in the Zone. It is also recommended to drink at least 64 ounces of water each day. Those who’ve followed the Zone Diet have reported amazing success that they were able to maintain on a long-term basis.
